Taxation Without Representation for Middletown Nonresidents, Renters.

This is one of the primary reasons America was born, taxation without representation.   Middletown nonresidents and renters have no representation or voice on the Middletown Town Council except one vote.  The Town Council voted 6-1 to impose a tiered tax between residents and nonresidents, is this fair.  The Town Council imposed a 30% tax delta between nonresident and resident, is this fair.  If you live in Middletown and you own a second property, you are considered a nonresident, is this fair.  If you are a long-term renter (LTR), you are a nonresident, rents are going up and unaffordability becomes more of an issue, is this fair.  The Town Council is trying to limit their exposure and awareness to overspending, a school deficit, the school bond, and they are trying to get re-elected.  How is it fair that 1,400 residents’ taxes are decreasing from the previous year (-40% to - 1%), and 2,600 plus nonresidents taxes are increasing from the previous year, (10% - 70%), is this fair?  We need a change to our current Town Council members, and to our spending spree across the board.  We need to fix the heavy tax burden we face, and it starts with tax reform.  Vote for me and the new candidates that are for change, we need to get back on track to keep Middletown affordable, cost of living predictable, and out of the box thinking, not, “that’s how we have always done it and it’s the system we have, so rocks are hard, and water is wet, deal with it”,  we need less politics and drama and more common sense.  Nonresidents are taxpayers and citizens of Middletown should have the right to vote for local issues.  Middletown Town Council and Town Administrator have a fiduciary responsibility to represent and protect all residents of Middletown, not 50% of the population.  Stop the popularity contest and do what’s right for all residents and pick the right candidate in November at the polls.  Keep Middletown affordable, communal, safe, and give residents the ability age in place.
